Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, went on rampage Monday and Tuesday to protest the killing of three undergraduates of the institution by an alleged drunk motorcycle rider and cab driver, claiming this is the third of such incidents in two years.
The three female students were all of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) department and in 200-level and said to be returning from the office of one of their lecturers.
Eyewitness account revealed that two of the victims were on a motorcycle (popularly called ‘okada’) when a taxi veered off its way. One had jumped in an attempt to escape but hit her head on the ground; the cab eventually crushed all riders. Another student was hit as she trekked nearby and later died in the hospital.
The fatality was extended to the three passengers in the taxi, also students of LAUTECH, all of which are said to still be in coma.
The aggrieved students allegedly burnt the accidented taxi, made bonfires on the road and destroyed some school property.
News Bytes had on Tuesday alerted on the fire incident at the institution.
More update to come….
