A thief remains a thief for life, at least when it comes to one California woman.
An elderly California burglar whose crime career spans over 50 years could face new charges in a series of recent robberies.
The news media reported that the Torrance Police Department is presenting evidence in eight robberies with possible charges against the 82-year-old Doris Thompson, who is being held on $80,000 bail.
Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt says that the suspect sneaked into an office, hiding until closing and finding the keys to the safe box. She is accused of stealing about $17,000, and allegedly was identified by security video. Thompson got in trouble with the law again, when she was accused of stealing from a children’s hospital. Although she told the court at the time that this was her last crime, the authorities were skeptical.
“I do not believe that after 50 years of this you suddenly stop,” Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Paulette Paccione said at the time according to the news media. “She’s not really apologized for that. This is her thing.”
